LIFTING DEVICE DESIGN AND CALCULATIONS

Principal Engineer, Mr. Jim Grek, PE, had calculation and sign-off responsibilities for Lifting
Devices at the General Motors locomotive division for over 10 years.  Jim has performed stress
calculations, design and approval of nearly 500 various lifting devices:

Calculations and PE approvals of Below the Hook Lifting Devices are performed in accordance
with ANSI  and ASME B30.20-2003 or ASME BTH-1-2005.

LIFTING DEVICE SAFETY AUDITS AND INSPECTIONS

The audit typically includes inspection of lifting devices for damage, review of lifting methods,
equipment safety reviews and structural calculation reviews.  Engineering safety documents,
lifter drawings and lifter calculations files are reviewed for completeness, accuracy and
conformance to OSHA, ASME and ANSI standards.  The scope of the Audit may be as small as
a single lifter or  as large as plant-wide.

An Inspection report with written conclusions, results and recommendations is provided.
